电子通信领域包含了视频-音频系统(video-audio system)、模拟和数字通信系统(analogue and digital communication systems)、微波系统(microwave systems)、光通信系统(optical communication systems)以及电信交换系统(telecommunication switching systems)。此科系成立的目的是为了朔造专业、精干与全方面的工程技术人员。由于此科系以实践为导向,毕业生将能够在自己的专业领域了表现出他们的高技能、良好道德观念和高精神素质。通过此科系,学生将有机会接触到电子通信的核心科目,如:电子通信(telecommunication electronics),微波和射频技术(microwave and RF techniques),电信交换系统(telecommunication switching system),光通信(optical communications)和天线(antenna)。学生不仅学习有关软件工程于技术上的知识,也被灌输关于软件工程学生所应具备的技能如软技能等以迎合市场上的要求。
